World Nursery Rhyme Week 2019

World nursery rhyme week

Well! It’s here again and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be involved! Last year marked our first year as proud partners of World Nursery Rhyme Week, together with organisers Music Bugs and partners Piccolo Music, and now, we’re at it again! We have provided a plethora of free resources and activities to celebrate the week, which takes place from the 18th – 22nd November 2019. This year, to add to the excitement, World Nursery Rhyme week has a new sponsor –  Little Baby Bum – who make nursery rhyme videos. Registration is actually now open – and when you sign up, you can access the free resources straight away, even though the event is not until the Autumn.

The importance of nursery rhymes

Nursery rhymes are absolutely essential to children’s development and are an essential part of early education. By singing nursery rhymes, children learn about rhythm, pronunciation, rhyme, maths,  sounds in words, social skills and much more – it’s also an enjoyable way of connecting together as humans and carrying on our nursery rhyme traditions.

What is World Nursery Rhyme Week?

World Nursery Rhyme Week is an initiative organised by Music Bugs and takes place from the 18th – 22nd November. There is a different rhyme each day and everyone is encouraged to take part by singing the rhyme from that day and taking part in the free activities provided by us. The rhymes this. year are:-

Monday 18th – Baa Baa Black Sheep

Tuesday 19th – Down In The Jungle

Wednesday 20th – Incy Wincy/Itsy Bitsy Spider

Thursday 21st – Row Row Row Your Boat

Friday 22nd – Two Little Dickie Birds

The activities include word tracing, colouring in, crafts, pencil control activities, role play activities, reading activities and much more!
