Mrs Mactivity

About Mrs Mactivity

Thoughtfully created. Built for real classrooms.

Hi, I’m Heather. I started Mrs Mactivity because I was spending far too much time searching for resources that were engaging, purposeful and genuinely useful, and often ended up making my own anyway.

I wanted to create the sort of lessons I’d look forward to teaching: full of interesting ideas, thoughtful questions and opportunities for those lovely little lightbulb moments when something suddenly makes sense.

Almost nine years later, Mrs Mactivity is a small independent team creating complete schemes of work and classroom resources for teachers, schools and parents around the world. The question behind everything is still the same: would I use this with my own class?

Resources that don’t feel generic

Our members often tell us they value resources that feel thoughtful, distinctive and made with real care.

Easy to navigate

Complete schemes, lessons and supporting resources sensibly organised to help teachers spend less time searching and more time getting on with teaching.

Made to engage children

From practical activities to colourful classroom resources, everything is designed to hold children’s interest and help ideas stick.

Less time searching. More time getting on with the job.

Why teachers choose Mrs Mactivity

When we ask our members why they use Mrs Mactivity, the same things come up again and again. They want resources they can trust, schemes that are clear and well structured, and ideas that feel engaging rather than generic.

They also want everything they need in one place. That means complete schemes of work, lessons that follow a sensible sequence and supporting resources that are ready when they need them, without hours of searching.

That is what we try to get right. Resources that look inviting, make sense to teachers and give children plenty to think, talk and wonder about.

What our members tell us “Visually attractive, accurate, engaging, well structured and versatile.”

Mrs Mactivity founder Heather McAvan

Heather - founder

Hi, I’m Heather. Before starting Mrs Mactivity, I spent 10 years teaching in primary schools in the UK and overseas. Since then I’ve worked in educational publishing, including on the senior team at Twinkl and as a Non-Executive Director at Kapow Primary. I also created a Department for Education-validated phonics programme before focusing full-time on growing Mrs Mactivity.

These days I still spend most of my time thinking about curriculum design and managing the website.

Anne Helsby image

Anne - lead curriculum developer

Anne has more than 15 years’ experience teaching across the primary age range and leads much of the curriculum development at Mrs Mactivity. She has an incredible eye for detail and is passionate about making sure every lesson is practical, purposeful and easy for teachers to use.

When she’s not creating resources, you’ll usually find her by the sea or spending time with her family.

Katie brings over 16 years of teaching experience, including roles as Early Years Lead, Year 1 Team Leader and Whole School Phonics Lead. She combines her classroom role with creating practical, hands-on phonics and Early Years resources that children genuinely enjoy using.

Her favourite days are the ones filled with messy play, storytelling and plenty of laughter.

★★★★★

“Mrs Mactivity has been invaluable to us in EYFS and the maths scheme for Reception and Nursery has saved us SO much time. The engaging ideas and thoroughness of the resources and activities has made it a no brainer, and this is the subscription I always intend to keep!”

Louise Tansley

EYFS teacher

★★★★★

“I was impressed by how comprehensive the SPaG scheme is. The accompanying resources are particularly useful because each lesson includes a pre-planned PowerPoint that teaches a specific SPaG objective clearly and explicitly. The differentiated activities that follow make it easy to support pupils at different levels. I have found the scheme invaluable for delivering high-quality SPaG lessons without adding to my workload.”

Rebecca

English Lead

★★★★★

“Having appropriate resources, matched to end-of-year outcomes, with explicit teaching points and high-quality content, all in one place has assisted enormously in the development of our whole-school learning strategy.”

Chris Walker
