If you’re looking for resources to engage and inspire children this summer, then our Euro 2020 teaching resources are for you! You’d think that the event would be called Euro 2021, but since the actual event was postponed from last year during Covid-19, they’ve decided to keep the original name.
Euro 2020 reading comprehension activities
One of the great things about Euro 2020, is that it’s everywhere, and children will naturally be interested in something that’s on TV and in the media a lot. This is what is sometimes called a “hook”. Getting children interested and enthusiastic about something by hooking them into to the topic. Got reluctant readers? No problem! Our Euro 2020 KS1 reading comprehension will entice even those children who claim to hate reading. Packed full of fun and interesting information about the Euros, and written in child-friendly language suitable for children aged 5-7. If the text is a little tricky, ask children to read in pairs, in groups, or put on the interactive whiteboard to read as a whole class. Once children have read through the text, they can read through the questions to see which ones they can answer. If they’re having trouble, again the children could work in pairs, or you can address in a whole class setting.

When are the Euros 2020?
The Euros 2020 (although taking place in Summer 2021) start on the 11th June, and run right through until the start of July. The event takes place across 11 cities in 11 countries, so unlike normal times, there is no base for the event. This is in part, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tournament.
