Year 3 Maths Spring Term

Year 3 Maths – Spring Term

Download our free Year 3 maths overview.

The spring term focuses on developing pupils’ understanding of measurement and fractions, building on number skills from the autumn term. Pupils apply their knowledge in new contexts, strengthening accuracy, reasoning and problem-solving.

The term begins with length and perimeter, where pupils measure, compare and calculate using different units. This is followed by fractions, where pupils explore unit and non-unit fractions, represent fractions in different ways and begin to compare and order them. The term then moves on to mass and capacity, developing practical measurement skills and applying them in real-life contexts.

Each block follows the White Rose small steps, supporting clear progression and helping pupils move from practical experiences to more abstract understanding.
