Pupils develop their understanding of the value of each digit in a 3-digit number by working with hundreds, tens and ones. Partitioning numbers within 1000 helps pupils see how numbers are composed and strengthens their understanding of place value.

Finding 1, 10 and 100 more or less

Pupils use their place value knowledge to find 1, 10 or 100 more or less than a given number, before applying their understanding when working with numbers on a number line to 1000.
