Lunar New Year EYFS activities and planning pack with a full set of continuous provision ideas for a Chinese New Year themed week. The plan is designed for Spring 1, Week 5 and includes flexible activity suggestions across PSED, Communication and Language, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design, Physical Development, Literacy and Maths.
Children can explore traditions through a simple food tasting and rating activity, book talk and non-fiction reading, and discussion prompts about celebrations. Creative ideas include collaging lanterns and making dragon pictures, while fine motor tasks include coloured spaghetti chop with chopsticks, tweezers and pom poms. Maths ideas include making Chinese numerals in glitter, matching Chinese number cards, and lantern counting with tweezers and pom poms.
