KS1 geography lessons and KS1 geography scheme

Deliver engaging, enquiry-led geography lessons with our KS1 Geography Scheme of Work, written for both Year 1 and Year 2. Fully aligned with the National Curriculum, this Key Stage 1 geography scheme helps pupils build strong geographical foundations through local area studies, map work, fieldwork and investigations into places and environments around the world.

In Year 1 geography, pupils explore their local area, begin using simple maps and identify human and physical features. In Year 2 geography, learning develops further through studies of forests, weather and seasonal patterns, atlas skills and contrasting non-European localities.

Recognised as Highly Commended by the Geographical Association, these KS1 geography units include interactive teaching slides, differentiated worksheets, vocabulary support, enquiry questions and practical fieldwork opportunities to help pupils build geographical vocabulary and understanding.

The scheme is designed to work flexibly within primary timetables. Many schools teach geography in blocked units across alternate half terms, while others timetable shorter weekly sessions. Lessons can also be adapted to allow additional time for fieldwork and extended enquiry activities.

This scheme can also be used flexibly for home education.
