Start the school day with five ready-to-use Year 5 morning starter activities for the Autumn Term. Each day combines short maths, spelling, grammar and writing tasks with a daily question, giving pupils varied Year 5 early morning work that they can begin as soon as they arrive.
Across Autumn set 1, pupils revisit a broad range of Year 5 skills. Maths activities include ordering decimals, working with money, written addition, finding 10, 100 and 1,000 more or less, and dividing by 10 and 100. English tasks cover correcting verb forms, punctuating direct speech, using commas after fronted adverbials, expanding noun phrases and using apostrophes for possession. Spelling practice includes the prefix inter-, dis- and mis-, words ending in -tion and -sion, common spelling words and words ending in -ous.

How to use the morning starter presentation
Launch the presentation directly in your browser and display it on your interactive whiteboard. Pupils can complete the activities in their morning books, on individual whiteboards or verbally where appropriate. If you want to work through responses together, you can also use your usual interactive whiteboard or screen annotation tools to mark, circle or discuss answers on screen.
