Year 4 | Decimals Knowledge Organiser – Tenths and Hundredths
This Year 4 decimals knowledge organiser supports pupils in securing key understanding of tenths and hundredths using clear place value models. It brings together fraction, decimal and place value representations to help pupils see how decimal numbers are constructed and how they change when divided by 10 and 100.
The organiser includes visual examples of tenths and hundredths on number lines, place value charts and Gattegno charts. It also models dividing by 10 and dividing by 100, showing how digits move between ones, tenths and hundredths, including decimals within 1 and decimals greater than 1.
What’s included in this knowledge organiser?
- Representing tenths on number lines and as fractions and decimals
- Using place value counters to show tenths and hundredths
- Hundredths represented using hundred squares and decimal notation
- Dividing by 10 using place value charts and Gattegno charts
- Dividing by 100 to create hundredths from whole numbers
- Clear visual links between fractions, decimals and place value
This knowledge organiser supports retrieval, discussion and reinforcement of decimal concepts throughout the unit, helping pupils make secure connections between models and written methods.
