Year 2 punctuation worksheets and lesson pack

Teach pupils to punctuate sentences accurately with this Year 2 punctuation worksheets and lesson pack, part of our Year 2 Spring SPaG scheme. This lesson helps children use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly to demarcate sentences, following the Year 2 National Curriculum grammar objectives.

This lesson pack includes:

  • Year 2 punctuation PowerPoint introducing sentence punctuation and the four sentence types
  • A practical activity checking and correcting punctuation in different sentence types
  • Year 2 punctuation worksheets for completing, punctuating and editing sentences independently

Pupils learn to:

  • Recognise statements, commands, questions and exclamations
  • Use capital letters at the beginning of sentences
  • Choose the correct punctuation mark for each sentence type
  • Edit writing to improve sentence punctuation and accuracy

No year groups are printed on our resources, making them suitable for mixed-age classes, intervention groups and SEND support where appropriate. Each worksheet is labelled with the small step to help teachers track progression.
