Write sentences using ‘and’ or ‘but’ worksheets
Writing sentences using ‘and’ or ‘but’ worksheets is the focus of SPaG Scheme Year 2 Autumn Lesson 1, helping children build on their understanding of simple sentence joining. This lesson introduces coordinating conjunctions in an accessible way using everyday vocabulary.
The lesson begins with clear GPS slides modelling how to join clauses using ‘and’ or ‘but’, followed by a practical activity to apply the concept. Children then complete one of two differentiated write sentences using ‘and’ or ‘but’ worksheets, depending on their level of confidence.

This Year 2 GPS resource supports the National Curriculum objective: Learn how to use subordination and coordination (using and, or, but) and aligns with English Appendix 2. Vocabulary has been selected with decoding in mind, using Phase 4–5 phonics where possible.
