Reception Maths – Growing 6, 7 and 8: Doubles, Combining and Number Composition

Build confidence with numbers 6, 7 and 8 in this Reception maths lesson pack, focusing on doubles, combining groups and number bonds. Designed to follow on from earlier work on recognising and representing numbers, this week helps children deepen their number sense and explore early addition and composition through engaging, practical activities.

Pupils use ten frames, dominoes, double-sided counters and other familiar objects to represent different ways to make numbers. Children also begin to recognise and create doubles, compare odd and even numbers, and describe numerical patterns using clear mathematical vocabulary.
