Reception Maths Spring Week 5: Growing 6, 7 and 8

Develop early number relationships with this Reception doubles, odd and even numbers lesson pack for Spring Week 5. Aligned with the White Rose Maths EYFS progression, pupils explore odd and even numbers, find and make doubles, combine two groups and develop conceptual subitising with numbers up to 8.

Pupils begin by investigating whether quantities can be arranged into pairs, helping them recognise the difference between odd and even numbers. They then explore doubles as two equal groups before using practical representations to combine groups and recognise how smaller parts make a whole.

The activities use ten frames, dominoes, dice, counters and practical representations to help pupils see number relationships rather than relying on counting alone. Pupils find and create doubles up to double 4, combine two groups to find how many there are altogether and use subitising to recognise a whole and the parts within it.
