The Year 3 Maths National Curriculum objectives on time aim to develop students’ understanding of time and the ability to apply this knowledge to solve problems. The specific objectives include:

1. Tell and write the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII, and 12-hour and 24-hour clocks.

2. Estimate and read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute; record and compare time in terms of seconds, minutes, and hours; use vocabulary such as o’clock, a.m./p.m., morning, afternoon, noon, and midnight.

3. Know the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day.

4. Compare and sequence intervals of time; solve simple problems involving time, such as finding the start or end time given the duration.

5. Use and interpret timetables, including those with both digital and analogue clocks.

Overall, these objectives aim to develop students’ ability to tell the time accurately, use and interpret time-related vocabulary, and solve problems related to time. By the end of Year 3, students should have a solid foundation in time concepts that will prepare them for more complex time-related problems in later years.
