This week’s lessons develop pupils’ ability to tell and read the time accurately. Pupils begin by using Roman numerals on clock faces before progressing from quarter-hour intervals to telling the time to 5 minutes and then to the minute. They also learn to read times shown on digital clocks.

Telling the time to 5 minutes and the minute

Pupils develop increasing accuracy when reading analogue clocks, moving from familiar quarter-hour intervals to 5-minute intervals and individual minutes. They use their understanding of the clock face and the position of the hands to identify different times.

Reading analogue and digital clocks

Pupils explore different ways that time can be represented, including analogue clock faces with Roman numerals and digital displays. This helps them make connections between different representations of the same time.
