Year 2 Summer Block 4

Summer Block 4: Measurement – Mass, Capacity and Temperature (Year 2)

Teach key measurement skills with confidence using this complete Year 2 unit on mass, capacity and temperature, aligned with the White Rose Maths small steps. Pupils learn to measure and compare mass in grams (g) and kilograms (kg), measure volume in millilitres (ml) and litres (l), and read and compare temperature in degrees Celsius (°C).

Children begin by understanding that mass is how heavy something is and practise measuring using scales. They compare objects using language such as heavier, lighter and equal, then move on to reading scales and measuring accurately in grams and kilograms. Later lessons introduce capacity and volume, including measuring, comparing and solving problems with ml and litres, before exploring temperature using thermometers.

Each lesson includes planning, teaching slides, practical activities and Year 2 measurement worksheets. If you are looking for grams and kilograms worksheets, a measuring mass worksheet, or capacity and volume resources linked to White Rose, everything is included in one place.
