Ready to go Spring Maths Year 2 Properties of Shape Resources to help save you time and deliver great learning outcomes for children. Includes planning, worksheets and more.

The national curriculum requirements for what children should learn about properties of shape in year 2 are:

  1. Recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes, including:
  • 2D shapes: rectangles (including squares), circles, and triangles
  • 3D shapes: cuboids (including cubes), pyramids, and spheres
  1. Describe the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, including:
  • 2D shapes: the number of sides and vertices, and whether the sides are straight or curved
  • 3D shapes: the number of faces, edges, and vertices
  1. Identify lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.
  2. Complete simple symmetric figures with respect to a specific line of symmetry.
  3. Draw 2D shapes and make 3D shapes using modelling materials.
  4. Sort 2D and 3D shapes into groups based on their properties.
  5. Use mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement, including:
  • left and right
  • top, bottom, and middle
  • clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Our resources are designed to cover the whole of the year 2 maths curriculum, aligned with the progression of White Rose Maths.
