Who was St George and what is St George’s Day?

St George is the Patron Saint of England. It is thought he was a high ranking officer in the Roman army, and died around 303A AD. He had a strong Christian faith and stories of his courage and bravery spread throughout Europe. Some even say that he fought a dragon! There is no evidence that he actually visited England at all, and it was King Edward III who made him the Patron Saint of England in 1350.

Children can make the flags using paper straws or craft sticks. Perfect for a St George’s Day celebration!
