Phase 4 Action Cards

Phase 4 phonics resources

Use these Phase 4 Action Cards as part of your phase 4 phonics teaching, or with your own children at home, to help children develop their reading and phonics skills.

How to use:

  • Hold each card up to a child or group of children and ask the children to copy the action on the card, saying what it is. For example, (when showing the picture of clapping hands) children to clap their hands and say, “Clap your hands!”
  • Now give one picture card to each child, along with a piece of paper and a pencil and ask them to write the corresponding sentence. If children struggle with the tricky words, remind them of the spellings and let them use their phonic knowledge to write the other words.
  • Time permitting, give the children another picture card and ask them to write a new sentence for the new picture.
