EYFS Morning Starter Jobs – St George’s Day Morning Work (Summer 1 Week 1)

Mark St George’s Day with these EYFS morning starter activities for Summer 1 Week 1. These Reception morning jobs – also called EYFS morning work – provide a purposeful, calm start to the day while reinforcing phonics, maths, mark making and fine motor skills.

St George’s Day EYFS morning activities

This week’s set includes:

  • Fine motor: Build towers with red and white cubes to represent the St George’s cross
  • Maths: Number sequencing with knight shields
  • Mark making: Dragon pattern tracing sheets
  • Phonics: Write and complete ‘ai’ words
  • Scissors: Cut and make your own St George’s Day flag

How to use

Split your class into five groups. Each day, children put away belongings and go straight to their allocated task. Rotate groups daily so by Friday, everyone has completed all five St George’s Day themed activities. This routine helps pupils settle quickly and develop independence.

Why use St George’s Day morning jobs?

These EYFS St George’s Day morning jobs combine cultural celebration with meaningful practice in phonics, maths and fine motor development. Ideal for Reception settling activities, phonics warm-ups or fine motor stations, they bring routine and focus to the start of the day.
