EYFS Morning Starter Jobs – Spring 2 Week 1 (Animals)
Kick off the new half term with our EYFS morning starter activities for Spring 2 Week 1, themed around animals. These Reception morning jobs – sometimes called EYFS morning work – are designed to make arrival time purposeful while reinforcing phonics, mark-making, maths and fine motor skills.
What’s included in this week’s animal morning jobs?
- ✔ Fine motor: Peg the correct number of legs on each animal
- ✔ Maths: Compare the length and height of different animals
- ✔ Mark making: Complete animal dot-to-dot sheets to support pencil control
- ✔ Phonics: Write simple “I can see” sentences linked to animals
- ✔ Scissors: Spiral animal craft to practise cutting skills
How to use
Split your class into five groups. Each day, children arrive, put their belongings away and go straight to their allocated activity. Rotate daily so by Friday, every child has experienced all five animal-themed challenges. This simple routine keeps mornings calm and consistent while building independence.
Why choose EYFS animal morning work?
These EYFS animal morning jobs are ideal for settling Reception pupils, supporting key skills and making mornings purposeful. They can also be used as independent starter tasks, fine motor stations or phonics warm-ups. Explore more in our EYFS Morning Starter Activities collection or browse the Miss LVT range.
