EYFS Morning Starter Jobs Autumn 2 Week 5 – Light and Dark
Week 5 of our EYFS Morning Starter Jobs Autumn 2 series explores the theme of Light and Dark. These Reception morning activities bring seasonal science into daily routines, encouraging children to think about light sources and nocturnal animals while also developing phonics, maths and fine motor skills.
Children are split into 5 groups and rotate across the week so that by Friday, everyone has completed each job. This week’s Light and Dark themed activities include:
- Fine motor: threading pipe cleaners into colanders to strengthen control and coordination.
- Maths: sorting circles and squares in a 2D shape activity.
- Mark making: colouring nocturnal animals to support focus and discussion.
- Phonics: CVC word writing practice with words such as kick, sock, dock and sack.
- Scissors: cutting out light source pictures including lamps, candles and torches.
