Year 6 Summer Spelling Resources

Consolidate and apply spelling knowledge with our Year 6 Summer spelling resources, aligned with the National Curriculum and forming part of the Mrs Mactivity SPaG scheme. This final spelling strand supports pupils in securing key patterns and applying them accurately as they prepare for the transition to Year 7.

Across the term, you will find a complete set of weekly spelling resources for Year 6, including spelling lists, Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheets, dictation passages, and handwriting sheets in your chosen font. Each week is supported by a clear Spelling Rules PowerPoint to introduce the focus and model correct spelling in context.

These resources are designed to be used together across the week, giving teachers a consistent structure for teaching spelling while allowing flexibility within your timetable. They sit alongside the grammar lessons for the term, helping pupils refine accuracy and use spelling patterns confidently in their writing.

What Year 6 covers in Summer

The Year 6 Summer spelling strand provides revision and consolidation of advanced prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Weekly focuses include:

  • Suffix: -ly (continually, enthusiastically, persistently, repeatedly, responsibly)
  • Prefixes: dis-, im-, in-, mis- (dissatisfied, disorganised, impatient, ineffective, misinformed)
  • Suffixes: -ful, -ive, -ation (beautiful, respectful, creative, defensive, negotiation, preparation)
  • Related words and roots (science, conscience, occupy, familiar, despair, paragraph, telescope, television)

Teachers can use these spelling lists for structured lessons or targeted revision before secondary school. Explore the full SPaG scheme for full coverage from Year 1 to Year 6.
