Year 4 SPaG Autumn Term

Year 4 SPaG scheme and resources – Autumn term

Spectacular SPaG is a ready-to-use scheme of work that supports teachers with clear, progressive grammar lessons. The Autumn block includes 9 small-step lessons, each aligned with the DfE’s English Appendix 2: Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation (often referred to as GPS), helping pupils build secure grammar foundations in Lower Key Stage 2.

Each SPaG lesson includes a PowerPoint presentation, an activity sheet and a differentiated worksheet. Activity sheets support active learning, while worksheets give pupils the opportunity to apply new skills through structured writing. All resources are differentiated at two levels to support a range of learners.

The scheme also includes Year 4 SPaG assessments in the style of GPS tests, complete with mark schemes and answers, alongside an assessment tracker to support progress monitoring. A full set of lesson plans and a termly overview are included to support planning and coverage.

The Year 4 Autumn spelling resources sit alongside these lessons, helping pupils apply spelling patterns alongside grammar learning.

Sessions are designed to last between 15-30 minutes and can be delivered flexibly depending on your setting. Lessons can be taught as standalone SPaG sessions or integrated into your main English teaching.
