Year 4 SPaG Scheme and Resources – Autumn Term
Spectacular SPaG is an engaging, ready-to-teach grammar scheme designed to save teachers time while ensuring high-quality SPaG instruction. The Autumn block includes 9 carefully sequenced lessons, each focused on a small step from the DfE’s English Appendix 2: Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation.
You’ll also find the Year 4 Autumn spelling strand, which supports progression into upper KS2. Each pack includes a spelling list, LSCWC sheet, dictation passage, handwriting sheets in your chosen font and Spelling Rules PowerPoints to introduce the spellings for each week. These can be adapted to your scheduled spelling sessions and align with the rest of the SPaG scheme.
Each SPaG lesson comes with a PowerPoint presentation, an activity sheet and a differentiated worksheet. Activity sheets help consolidate learning, while worksheets give pupils the opportunity to apply their understanding through writing tasks. Resources are differentiated at two levels to support a range of learners, with simpler vocabulary and visual scaffolding where needed.
Vocabulary is carefully chosen to align with the spelling curriculum taught by the end of Year 3, supporting progression into Year 4 grammar expectations. Simpler terms are used where appropriate to maintain focus on the new concept being introduced.
Lesson plans are provided in a single download at the top of the term’s page. Each session lasts between 15–30 minutes and can be delivered flexibly across multiple sessions based on the needs of your class.
