Teaching money in Year 3 Summer Week 4

This week’s lessons develop pupils’ calculation skills in the context of money. Pupils add and subtract amounts in pounds and pence before using their understanding to calculate change and complete the end-of-block Money assessment.

Adding and subtracting money

Pupils apply their addition and subtraction skills to amounts of money, working with pounds and pence and choosing appropriate methods to calculate totals and differences.

Calculating change

Pupils use subtraction to calculate change from a given amount, applying their understanding of pounds and pence in practical money problems. The block finishes with a Money assessment covering the learning from the sequence.
