Year 2 science scheme of work and resources

Explore our Year 2 science scheme of work, designed to help pupils investigate how living things grow, survive and change through practical, enquiry-led science lessons. Fully aligned with the National Curriculum, the scheme supports pupils as they study habitats, materials, plants and animals through meaningful scientific exploration.

Part of our comprehensive Scintillating Science scheme, these Year 2 science lessons encourage pupils to test ideas, compare materials, explore life processes and begin drawing simple conclusions from their observations. Lessons build scientific understanding while strengthening confidence with questioning, discussion and practical investigation.

Each Year 2 science unit includes interactive teaching slides, differentiated worksheets, hands-on investigations, vocabulary support, knowledge organisers and detailed lesson planning to support consistent progression across Key Stage 1 science.

What’s included in our Year 2 science scheme?

Our Year 2 science resources help pupils develop scientific knowledge and enquiry skills through practical, engaging lessons linked to the National Curriculum. Pupils investigate habitats, materials, growth and survival while building confidence with observing closely, carrying out simple tests, recording findings and discussing scientific ideas using appropriate vocabulary.

These Year 2 science lesson packs support pupils in developing a deeper understanding of living things, healthy lifestyles, plant growth and the properties of materials through structured investigations and purposeful discussion.

  • Fully planned Year 2 science lesson packs with detailed teaching guidance
  • Interactive teaching slides and differentiated science worksheets
  • Practical investigations and enquiry-led science activities
  • Knowledge organisers and scientific vocabulary support
  • Assessment opportunities linked to National Curriculum objectives

Pupils explore habitats and food chains, investigate how materials can be changed and used, learn about exercise and healthy living, and develop understanding of plant growth and survival through practical, age-appropriate science learning.

Our KS1 science scheme of work supports progression across Key Stage 1 while helping pupils develop confidence with scientific enquiry, observation and communication.
