Year 6 geography scheme of work and resources

Our Year 6 geography scheme of work encourages pupils to explore complex geographical issues through investigation, debate and analytical thinking. Lessons help pupils examine how environments, economies and populations are interconnected while developing more advanced geographical enquiry skills across Upper KS2.

Through studies of trade, sustainability, mapping, global development and environmental change, pupils interpret geographical information, evaluate human impact and consider how decisions influence places and communities around the world.

Part of our Glorious Geography scheme, recognised as Highly Commended by the Geographical Association, these Year 6 geography resources combine fieldwork, discussion, data interpretation and map work to prepare pupils for transition into secondary geography.

Part of our KS2 geography scheme

These Year 6 geography units form part of our complete KS2 geography curriculum, supporting progression in geographical enquiry, fieldwork and critical thinking across Upper KS2.

What’s included in our Year 6 geography scheme?

Our Year 6 geography resources support pupils in analysing geographical issues and interpreting information from a range of sources. Lessons encourage pupils to question evidence, compare viewpoints and investigate how human activity affects environments at local, national and global scales.

Pupils strengthen their understanding of sustainability, global connections and environmental change while developing confidence using maps, atlases, digital mapping tools and geographical data. Fieldwork and enquiry activities encourage independent thinking and geographical discussion throughout the year.
