Year 5 geography scheme of work and resources

Our Year 5 geography scheme of work encourages pupils to investigate the wider world through environmental enquiry, regional studies and global issues. Lessons explore how trade, energy, sustainability and physical geography shape the lives of people across different continents and environments.

Through studies of North and South America, coasts, natural resources and global economic activity, pupils begin to interpret geographical information more critically and consider the connections between people, places and environments on a global scale.

Part of our Glorious Geography scheme, recognised as Highly Commended by the Geographical Association, these Year 5 geography resources combine geographical enquiry, map interpretation, discussion and fieldwork to support progression across Upper KS2.

Part of our KS2 geography scheme

These Year 5 geography units form part of our complete KS2 geography curriculum, supporting progression in geographical enquiry, fieldwork and analytical thinking across Upper KS2.

What’s included in our Year 5 geography scheme?

Our Year 5 geography resources support pupils in exploring global challenges, environmental change and international connections through increasingly independent geographical enquiry. Lessons encourage pupils to question, interpret and evaluate geographical information using maps, data, photographs and fieldwork evidence.

Pupils investigate how coastlines are shaped, how resources are distributed and how trade links countries and communities around the world. They also explore contrasting regions and consider how human decisions affect environments both locally and globally.

  • Detailed Year 5 geography lesson packs with structured teaching guidance
  • Interactive slides, differentiated activities and geographical enquiry tasks
  • Vocabulary support and opportunities for geographical discussion and debate

Recognised as Highly Commended by the Geographical Association, our Glorious Geography scheme helps pupils develop stronger geographical understanding and prepares them for more advanced geographical study in Year 6 and beyond.
