Spectacular SPaG is used as our whole school SPaG scheme from years 1-6. Many teachers also use the maths resources and find them especially valuable for providing practical ideas or additional practice for pupils with SEND.
We were impressed by how comprehensive the scheme is. The SPaG resources are fantastic because the pre-planned PowerPoint teaches a very specific SPaG objective. There are then differentiated activities for each objective. We have found these really helpful for ensuring that SPaG is taught explicitly without adding to teacher’s workload.
Our School Improvement Partner visit identified the teaching of SPaG as a gap across the school.
Very easy. We had one quick 30 minute meeting with teachers to talk through the expectations and we have been good to go ever since!
Children are beginning to understand that SPaG is a separate skill to just being able to write. They are being more intentional with the SPaG choices and are more aware of the expectations. Having the completed activities available to them serve as a helpful reminder to look back on. Children in UKS2 are more able to reflect on their learning and find a resource they have previously used to check and edit their work.
Pupils like the satisfaction they get when they see themselves succeed with an activity. They also enjoy having a SPaG book to keep everything in and refer back to.
Resources are high quality and help with teacher subject knowledge. Having differentiated activities ensures that the scheme is more accessible. We also love that each sheet has a level rather than a year group which helps avoid some stigma, though some teachers do choose to crop this off altogether.
