Year 5 maths scheme of work and resources

Explore our Year 5 maths scheme of work, designed to help pupils deepen their mathematical understanding as they move through Upper Key Stage 2. Fully aligned with White Rose Maths and the Year 5 National Curriculum, the scheme provides structured teaching sequences, clear progression and full curriculum coverage across the school year.

Throughout Year 5, pupils work with larger numbers, more complex calculations, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, geometry, statistics and problem-solving. Lessons are carefully sequenced to help pupils strengthen fluency, make connections between concepts and apply mathematical knowledge with increasing confidence.

Year 5 is an important stage for developing accuracy, reasoning and mathematical independence. Pupils are encouraged to explain methods, justify answers and tackle multi-step problems as they prepare for the demands of Year 6.

Whether you are looking for a complete Year 5 maths scheme, Year 5 maths planning or ready-to-teach Year 5 maths resources, this collection includes lesson plans, interactive teaching slides, differentiated worksheets, reasoning activities and assessment opportunities for every unit.

What’s included in our Year 5 maths scheme?

Our Year 5 maths scheme of work supports pupils as they build the deeper understanding needed for Upper Key Stage 2 mathematics. Lessons follow the progression of White Rose Maths, helping pupils develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills through carefully sequenced teaching and regular opportunities to revisit prior learning.

Pupils explore key areas of the curriculum including place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, geometry, statistics and position and direction. The scheme supports pupils in making connections across the maths curriculum and applying knowledge in more complex contexts.

  • Fully planned Year 5 maths lesson packs with clear teaching guidance
  • Interactive teaching slides and differentiated maths worksheets
  • Fluency, reasoning and problem-solving activities across the curriculum
  • Support for fractions, decimals, percentages and multi-step problem-solving
  • Assessment opportunities to monitor understanding and support progression

Year 5 is where pupils begin to tackle increasingly sophisticated mathematical ideas with greater independence. They work with larger numbers, develop more secure understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages, and apply mathematical knowledge across a wider range of contexts.

Lessons encourage pupils to select efficient strategies, justify their reasoning and make connections between different areas of mathematics. This deeper understanding helps prepare pupils for the demands of Year 6 and supports long-term mathematical confidence.

Reasoning and problem-solving are embedded throughout the scheme, giving pupils regular opportunities to explain methods, compare approaches and solve multi-step problems. Mathematical vocabulary and communication are developed alongside procedural fluency to strengthen overall understanding.

Our KS2 maths scheme provides clear progression across Years 3 to 6, helping schools deliver a coherent approach to primary mathematics while preparing pupils for the expectations of Year 6 and beyond.
