Year 4 maths scheme of work and resources

Explore our Year 4 maths scheme of work, designed to help pupils build fluency, accuracy and confidence across the Key Stage 2 curriculum. Fully aligned with White Rose Maths and the Year 4 National Curriculum, the scheme provides structured teaching sequences, clear progression and full curriculum coverage throughout the school year.

Throughout Year 4, pupils strengthen their understanding of multiplication and division, place value, addition and subtraction, fractions, decimals, geometry, statistics and measurement. Lessons are carefully sequenced to help pupils become increasingly fluent and efficient when applying mathematical methods and solving problems.

Year 4 is a crucial stage in developing mathematical confidence. As pupils work with larger numbers and more complex calculations, they are encouraged to select suitable strategies, explain their reasoning and apply their knowledge across different mathematical contexts.

Whether you are looking for a complete Year 4 maths scheme, Year 4 maths planning or ready-to-teach Year 4 maths resources, this collection includes lesson plans, interactive teaching slides, differentiated worksheets, reasoning activities and assessment opportunities for every unit.

What’s included in our Year 4 maths scheme?

Our Year 4 maths scheme of work helps pupils strengthen core mathematical knowledge while developing the fluency and accuracy needed for success across Key Stage 2. Lessons follow the progression of White Rose Maths, allowing pupils to build secure understanding through carefully sequenced learning and regular opportunities to consolidate prior knowledge.

Pupils explore key areas of the curriculum including place value, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction, fractions, decimals, measurement, geometry and statistics. Throughout the year, pupils are encouraged to apply mathematical knowledge confidently and explain their thinking using appropriate mathematical language.

  • Fully planned Year 4 maths lesson packs with clear teaching guidance
  • Interactive teaching slides and differentiated maths worksheets
  • Fluency, reasoning and problem-solving activities throughout the curriculum
  • Progressive development of multiplication fluency and calculation efficiency
  • Assessment opportunities to monitor understanding and support progression

Multiplication and division play a particularly important role in Year 4 mathematics. Pupils build rapid recall of multiplication facts, strengthen their understanding of number relationships and learn to apply efficient calculation strategies across a wide range of mathematical concepts. These skills support learning throughout the rest of the primary curriculum.

As pupils become more confident with number, they are encouraged to choose appropriate methods, work accurately and solve increasingly complex problems independently. Lessons provide opportunities to revisit and apply prior learning while introducing new concepts in manageable steps.

Alongside fluency, pupils are encouraged to reason mathematically, explain strategies and justify solutions. Problem-solving opportunities are embedded throughout the scheme, helping pupils develop resilience and confidence when approaching unfamiliar questions.

Our KS2 maths scheme provides clear progression across Years 3 to 6, helping schools deliver a coherent approach to primary mathematics while preparing pupils for the increasing demands of Upper Key Stage 2.
