Year 6 | Statistics: Spring Block 6: Week 11 – Lesson Resource Pack
Year 6 statistics lesson pack | Line graphs, bar charts and pie charts | Spring Block 6
This Year 6 statistics lesson pack develops pupils’ understanding of data handling through interpreting and constructing line graphs, dual bar charts and pie charts. Across the week, pupils build confidence in reading, comparing and representing data before applying their understanding to solve problems and analyse information.
Lessons begin with interpreting line graphs, including those with multiple data sets, where pupils read values, estimate between points and compare trends. They then move on to drawing line graphs from tables of data, selecting appropriate scales, labelling axes and using keys accurately. Pupils apply this understanding to dual bar charts, learning how to interpret and construct charts, compare categories and calculate totals.
The focus then shifts to pie charts. Pupils learn how to read and interpret pie charts, understand how data relates to the whole and calculate the value of each section using fractions. By the end of the sequence, pupils confidently interpret and represent data in a range of formats, using reasoning and problem-solving skills to explain patterns and draw conclusions.
