Year 6 | Shape: Summer Block 1: Week 2 – Lesson Resource Pack
Year 6 shape lesson pack | Angles in shapes | Summer Block 1 Week 2
This Year 6 shape lesson pack focuses on developing pupils’ understanding of angles within triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons. Pupils build on their prior knowledge of angle facts and apply these to calculate missing angles across a range of geometric contexts.
Across the week, pupils begin by measuring and calculating angles in triangles, exploring how angles combine to form 180° and using this to find missing values. They then move on to finding missing angles in different types of triangles, including equilateral, isosceles and right-angled triangles. As the week progresses, pupils apply multiple angle rules together, including angles on a straight line, around a point and vertically opposite angles, to solve more complex problems. They then extend their understanding to quadrilaterals, recognising that interior angles total 360° and using properties of shapes such as parallelograms to calculate missing angles. The week concludes with exploring angles in polygons, identifying patterns and using the formula (n − 2) × 180° to calculate the sum of interior angles.
Reasoning and problem-solving opportunities are built throughout, encouraging pupils to explain their thinking, identify efficient methods and apply angle rules accurately across increasingly challenging problems.
