Year 6 fractions, decimals and percentages lesson pack | Spring Block 4: Week 8
This Year 6 fractions, decimals and percentages lesson pack helps pupils compare and order fractions, decimals and percentages, then apply percentage skills to solve real problems. Across the week, pupils move from converting and ordering mixed representations to calculating percentages of amounts, using efficient strategies and clear visual models.
Lessons begin with ordering fractions, decimals and percentages (including values greater than 1) and explaining different methods for comparison. Pupils then learn to find percentages of amounts using one-step strategies (such as 10%, 50%, 25% and 1%) before applying multi-step approaches to calculate more complex percentages. Later in the week, pupils use bar models to find the whole when a percentage is known and apply these skills in reasoning tasks and problem-solving challenges.
