Year 6 decimals within 1 lesson pack | Decimals: Spring Block 3: Week 5

This Year 6 decimals within 1 lesson pack supports pupils in securing place value understanding to three decimal places through counting, partitioning and representing decimals less than 1. Aligned with the White Rose Spring Block 3 small step, the lesson helps pupils recognise the value of each digit in tenths, hundredths and thousandths, and understand how each place becomes ten times smaller as you move to the right.

Pupils use place value charts, counters and number lines to represent and compare decimals such as 0.423 and 0.308, with a strong focus on correct use of zero as a placeholder. The lesson also includes reasoning tasks that encourage pupils to explain comparisons and identify decimals that meet given clues, building confidence ahead of rounding and calculation later in the block.
