Year 5 Spring spelling resources – SPaG scheme
Support structured spelling teaching with our Year 5 spring spelling resources, created to accompany the Spelling Strand Year 5 – Spring Term – overview and rationale and the wider Mrs Mactivity SPaG scheme. These resources follow the Spring term spelling sequence and provide pupils with regular opportunities to practise, apply and secure key spelling rules and patterns.
Each week focuses on a specific spelling rule or word pattern, supported by a consistent practice routine. The Spring term includes spelling focuses such as homophones, Year 5 and 6 statutory word list spellings, ‘ee’ spelt ‘ei’, and word endings including -cious/-tious, -cial/-tial and -able/-ible.
This complete set of Year 5 spring spelling resources includes:
- Weekly spelling lists linked directly to Spring term spelling focuses, including statutory word list spellings
- Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheets to support recall and independent practice
- Trace and write sheets to reinforce accurate spelling and handwriting fluency
- Spelling activity cards offering varied practice approaches such as stepped spellings, pyramid spellings, sound button spellings and picture spellings
Designed by experienced teachers, these resources fit easily into weekly spelling routines and can be used for whole-class teaching, independent practice or targeted support. The activity cards can be reused across the term to keep spelling practice varied while reinforcing key spelling rules.
Use alongside the Year 5 Spring spelling overview and rationale, lesson presentations and dictation tasks to ensure clear progression, regular assessment and consistent coverage of spelling across the Spring term spelling strand.
