Year 5 multiplication and division – identifying multiples
Help children understand and apply the concept of multiples with this Year 5 multiplication and division lesson from Autumn Block 3. Aligned with the White Rose Maths small steps, this session guides pupils through recognising, listing and proving multiples using arrays, number grids and divisibility rules.
Children will practise identifying multiples of 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9, learn how to spot patterns, and explore rules such as the sum of digits test for 3 and 9. The lesson also encourages deeper reasoning with “Always, Sometimes, Never” statements and problem-solving tasks to challenge misconceptions and extend thinking.
