Year 5 | Decimals and percentages: Week 6 – Lesson Resource Pack
Support pupils as they build a secure understanding of decimals and their links to fractions in this Year 5 decimals and percentages lesson pack. Across the week, pupils develop fluency with decimal place value (up to 2 decimal places), explore equivalence between fractions and decimals using tenths and hundredths, and extend this understanding to thousandths as fractions. Visual models such as hundred squares, bar models, number lines and place value counters help pupils see the size of each part and avoid common errors such as mixing up tenths and hundredths, missing the zero placeholder, or assuming the denominator tells you the number of tenths in the decimal. Reasoning and problem-solving tasks are built in throughout to strengthen accuracy and explanation.
