Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack – How can we find our way in the Lake District?

This Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack is part of our Glorious Geography scheme, designed for mixed-age Upper KS2 classes working across a two-year cycle. It ensures full curriculum coverage without repetition across Year 5 and Year 6.

Across Cycle A and Cycle B, pupils explore contrasting regions and develop a secure understanding of both physical and human geography.

How can we find our way in the Lake District? is the fifth lesson in Cycle B, Block 2: Exploring the Lake District. In this lesson, pupils develop their fieldwork and map-reading skills, using maps, symbols and grid references to navigate the landscape. They apply these skills to real locations within the Lake District, building confidence in interpreting and using geographical information.

This lesson supports pupils in becoming more independent geographers, able to use maps and spatial awareness to understand and navigate unfamiliar places.
