Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack – How does life in Manaus compare to life here?
This Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack is part of our Glorious Geography scheme, designed for mixed-age Upper KS2 classes following a two-year cycle. It helps pupils build geographical knowledge and understanding without repeating the same units.
Across Cycle A and Cycle B, pupils explore contrasting places and compare how people live in different parts of the world, developing a deeper understanding of both physical and human geography.
How does life in Manaus compare to life here? is the fifth lesson in Cycle B, Block 1: Do People Live in the Amazon Rainforest? In this lesson, pupils compare daily life in Manaus with life in the UK, considering homes, schools, transport, jobs and the local environment. They begin to identify similarities and differences between places and think carefully about how location shapes people’s lives.
This lesson supports pupils in making meaningful geographical comparisons while strengthening their understanding of South America and the Amazon region.
Each lesson pack includes:
- An enquiry-led approach that develops geographical understanding
- Detailed lesson plans with vocabulary, misconceptions and assessment opportunities
- Clear teacher guidance and secure subject knowledge
- Editable slides that model the learning
- Differentiated worksheets and activities to support all pupils
