Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack – How do people live in Manaus?

This Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack is part of our Glorious Geography scheme, designed for mixed-age Upper KS2 classes working across a two-year cycle. It supports clear progression in geography without repeating the same units.

Through Cycle A and Cycle B, pupils explore a range of places and environments, developing a stronger understanding of how people adapt to different conditions around the world.

How do people live in Manaus? is the fourth lesson in Cycle B, Block 1: Do People Live in the Amazon Rainforest? In this lesson, pupils look more closely at daily life in Manaus, exploring homes, transport, jobs and services within a large city in the Amazon region. They begin to understand how people live in an urban area surrounded by rainforest and how life in Manaus compares with other settlements.

This lesson helps pupils deepen their understanding of human geography in South America while making meaningful comparisons between places.

Each lesson pack includes:

  • An enquiry-led approach that develops geographical understanding
  • Detailed lesson plans with vocabulary, misconceptions and assessment opportunities
  • Clear teacher guidance and secure subject knowledge
  • Editable slides that model the learning
  • Differentiated worksheets and activities to support all pupils
