Lesson 5: How is the Coastline Changing?
Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack – How is the coastline changing?
This Year 5/6 mixed-age geography lesson pack forms part of our Glorious Geography scheme, designed to support schools teaching mixed-age classes across Upper KS2. The scheme follows a clear two-year cycle, allowing full curriculum coverage without repeating units.
Cycle A and Cycle B provide two distinct learning pathways. Pupils revisit key geographical concepts in different contexts, helping them build a deeper understanding over time.
How is the coastline changing? is the fifth lesson in Cycle A, Block 2: Down by the Sea. In this lesson, pupils explore how coastlines are shaped over time through processes such as erosion and deposition, linking prior learning to real-world coastal change.
Each lesson pack includes:
- An enquiry-based approach that develops geographical thinking and fieldwork skills
- Clear lesson plans with vocabulary, key questions, misconceptions and assessment opportunities
- Teacher guidance and subject knowledge to support secure delivery
- Editable slides to model key concepts and support whole-class teaching
- Differentiated worksheets and activities to support all pupils
