Year 4 | Shape – Week 9 Lesson Resource Pack
This Year 4 shape lesson pack covers all learning for Week 9 of Summer Block 4: Geometry – Shape. The week focuses on regular and irregular polygons, lines of symmetry, and completing symmetrical shapes and patterns, with clear progression across the sequence.
Pupils begin by identifying and classifying regular and irregular polygons, learning that both the side lengths and angles must be equal for a polygon to be regular. They then apply this understanding to calculate the perimeter of regular polygons and use inverse operations to find missing side lengths.
The week moves on to identifying lines of symmetry in 2D shapes, including horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. Pupils explore how regular polygons have the same number of lines of symmetry as sides and use folding and mirrors to check their answers. The sequence finishes with completing symmetrical shapes and patterns on grids, including shapes that do not intersect the line of symmetry.
