Spelling Strand Year 3 – Spring 2 – lesson presentations (Weeks 7–11)
Introduce each week’s spelling focus with our Year 3 Spring 2 spelling lesson presentations, part of the Mrs Mactivity SPaG scheme. These spelling lesson PowerPoints cover Weeks 7–11 of the Spring spelling strand, guiding pupils through the weekly spelling rule, suffix or spelling pattern before practising and applying the words.
Each presentation supports the teaching sequence set out in the Spelling Strand Year 3 – Spring term – overview and rationale and is aligned with the National Curriculum. They include clear examples, modelled spellings and opportunities for discussion, helping pupils understand meaning, spelling patterns and tricky parts.
Spring 2 spelling focuses included in these presentations:
- Week 7 – The -ly suffix (e.g. sadly, completely, usually, gently)
- Week 8 – The -ally suffix (e.g. basically, magically, actually, occasionally)
- Week 9 – Words with the ch spelling (e.g. scheme, chemist, echo, machine)
- Week 10 – Words ending in gue and que (e.g. league, tongue, antique, unique)
- Week 11 – Year 3 and 4 statutory word list (e.g. calendar, February, grammar, heart)
These Spring 2 lesson presentations are ideal for introducing new spellings at the start of each week. Use alongside weekly spelling lists, Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheets and Year 3 spring spelling dictation tasks to provide consistent practice and full coverage across the Spring term spelling strand.
