Spelling Strand Year 3 – Spring 1 – lesson presentations (Weeks 1–6)
Introduce each week’s spelling focus with our Year 3 spring spelling lesson presentations, part of the Mrs Mactivity SPaG scheme. Designed for Weeks 1–6, these spelling lesson PowerPoints guide pupils through the weekly spelling rule, prefix or suffix before practising and applying the words.
Each presentation supports the teaching sequence set out in the Spelling Strand Year 3 – Spring term – overview and rationale and is aligned with the National Curriculum. They include clear examples, modelled spellings and opportunities for discussion, helping pupils understand meaning, spelling patterns and tricky parts.
Spring 1 spelling focuses include:
- Week 1 – Prefixes super- and sub- (e.g. superhero, supermarket, subway, submarine)
- Week 2 – Prefixes auto-, anti- and inter- (e.g. autograph, autopilot, antivirus, intercom)
- Week 3 – Prefix un- (e.g. unkind, unhappy, unusual, untidy)
- Week 4 – Prefixes dis- and mis- (e.g. dislike, disappear, misplace, misunderstand)
- Week 5 – Prefix re- (e.g. replay, redo, rebuild, return)
- Week 6 – Consolidation and review
These Spring 1 lesson presentations are ideal for introducing new spellings at the start of each week. Use alongside weekly spelling lists, Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheets and Year 3 spring spelling dictation tasks to provide consistent practice and full coverage across the Spring term spelling strand.
