Lesson 2: How do people use mountains?
Year 3/4 mixed-age scheme, rivers and mountains resources, Year 3/4 Geography scheme of work
Year 3/4 mixed-age Geography lesson pack mountains focuses on how people use mountains for work, travel and tourism. Pupils explore real-life examples such as farming, mining and tourism, while learning how mountains support different types of human activity around the world. Through discussion, research and map work, the children develop a clear understanding of how environments shape the way people live and work. Glorious Geography is a well-structured and engaging scheme of work from Reception to Year 6, with full national curriculum coverage.
How to use our mixed-age Geography scheme of work:
For schools with mixed age classes, we have adapted the scheme so that the Year 3 and Year 4 blocks can be used on a two-year cycle.
In the first year of the cycle, all pupils in Year 3 and 4 will follow the Cycle A blocks of lessons.
In the second year, all pupils in Year 3 and 4 will follow the Cycle B blocks of lessons.
This ensures that the children do not repeat any of the blocks during KS2.
This lesson builds on prior learning by exploring how people interact with mountain environments, including how mountains are used for tourism, farming and natural resources. Pupils investigate how people adapt to living and working in these environments and consider both the benefits and challenges.
Each lesson pack includes clear lesson plans, key vocabulary, misconceptions, cross-curricular links, assessment opportunities, editable teaching slides and differentiated worksheets.
