Spelling Strand Year 2 – Summer 1 – Lesson Presentations (Weeks 1–5)
Spelling Strand Year 2 – Summer 1 – lesson presentations (Weeks 1–5)
Introduce each week’s spelling focus with our Year 2 Summer 1 spelling lesson presentations, part of the Mrs Mactivity SPaG scheme. Designed for Weeks 1–5, these Year 2 spelling PowerPoints support teachers in modelling each spelling rule or pattern before pupils practise and apply their learning.
Each presentation follows the sequence set out in the Spelling Strand Year 2 – Summer term – overview and rationale and aligns with National Curriculum expectations. These Year 2 Summer 1 spelling lesson presentations include clear examples, modelled spellings and opportunities for discussion, helping pupils build confidence in spelling patterns, word meanings and common exception words.
Summer 1 spelling focuses include:
- Week 1 – Suffixes -ment and -ness (e.g. movement, enjoyment, happiness)
- Week 2 – Suffixes -ful and -less (e.g. careful, playful, hopeless)
- Week 3 – Suffix -ly (e.g. quickly, easily, happily)
- Week 4 – le/el spellings (e.g. camel, tunnel, squirrel, travel)
- Week 5 – al/il spellings (e.g. metal, capital, animal, pencil)
These Year 2 spelling PowerPoints are ideal for introducing new spelling rules at the start of each week. Use alongside the Year 2 Summer spelling resources, dictation activities and handwriting sheets for full coverage of the Summer spelling strand.
Combine with the full SPaG scheme to support clear progression in spelling, punctuation and grammar from Year 1 to Year 6.
