Spelling Strand Year 2 – Spring 1 – lesson presentations (Weeks 1–6)
Introduce each week’s spelling focus with our Year 2 spring spelling lesson presentations, part of the Mrs Mactivity SPaG scheme. Designed for Weeks 1–6, these Year 2 spelling PowerPoints guide pupils through the spelling rule or pattern for each week before practising and applying the words.
Each presentation supports the teaching sequence set out in the Spelling Strand Year 2 – Spring term – overview and rationale and is aligned with the National Curriculum. They include clear examples, modelled spellings and opportunities for discussion, helping pupils understand spelling patterns, word meanings and tricky parts.
Spring 1 spelling focuses include:
- Week 1 – The /s/ sound spelt as c (e.g. ice, mice, city, fancy)
- Week 2 – dge and ge spellings (e.g. badge, hedge, fridge, huge)
- Week 3 – g/j spellings (e.g. gem, giant, giraffe, magic)
- Week 4 – kn, gn and wr letter strings (e.g. knot, gnaw, write, wrong)
- Week 5 – Year 2 common exception words (e.g. every, great, pretty, because, people)
- Week 6 – Consolidation and review
These Spring 1 spelling lesson presentations are ideal for introducing new spellings at the start of each week. Use alongside the Year 2 Spring spelling resources, dictation tasks and handwriting sheets for complete coverage of the Spring term spelling strand.
Combine with the full SPaG scheme to ensure progression in spelling, punctuation and grammar from Year 1 to Year 6.
