This assessment helps you identify pupils’ starting points at the beginning of the Autumn term by checking their understanding of the key grammar, punctuation and spelling objectives taught in Year 1.

The assessment includes:

• Adding suffixes to verbs and nouns (-ed, -s and -es)
• Using capital letters correctly, including for names and I
• Understanding the prefix un-
• Joining words and clauses using and
• Using full stops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly
• Sequencing sentences and correcting spacing
