Year 2 Spelling Strand Autumn 2 Lesson Presentations (Weeks 7–11)

Introduce each week’s spelling rule with our Year 2 Spelling Strand Autumn 2 lesson presentations, designed to support Weeks 7–11 of the Year 2 Autumn spelling sequence. These PowerPoints introduce each week’s spelling focus before pupils practise, apply and test the new spellings.

Each presentation follows the teaching sequence in our Year 2 Autumn spelling strand, which includes the overview and rationale, weekly spelling lists, dictation activities and handwriting sheets. Fully aligned with the National Curriculum, the presentations provide clear examples, modelled spellings and opportunities to discuss word meanings, spelling patterns and tricky parts.

  • Week 7 – Compound and common exception words
  • Week 8 – Common exception words focusing on the /oa/ sound
  • Week 9 – Common exception words including words with the /igh/ sound
  • Week 10 – The /igh/ sound spelt y at the end of words (e.g. spy, cry, fly, dry, reply, July)
  • Week 11 – Adding -es after words ending in y (e.g. berries, parties, babies, tries, fries, replies)

Use these lesson presentations alongside the other resources in the Year 2 Autumn spelling strand for complete coverage of the Autumn term.

Explore the Year 2 Autumn SPaG page to see how the spelling progression complements the grammar lessons, planning and assessment resources throughout the term.
