Based on the Year 1 National Curriculum spelling appendix, the overview sets out the weekly spelling focuses, teaching sequence and classroom routines that underpin the entire spelling strand.

The yearly overview provides a clear progression through common exception words, phonics-linked spelling patterns, alternative spellings, split digraphs, suffixes and other key Year 1 spelling objectives.
